Police negligence escapes accused from jail, action to be taken against ASI

AGARTALA, August 11 (TIWN): On yet another negligence of police left accused person escaped from jail on August 9. The incident occurred at Khowai Mungiakami Police Station. The accused identified as Rakesh Debbarma (24) who was put in jail on charge of torturing his wife on Sunday allegedly managed to attack the police constable who was in duty at night and later he escaped from the police station.

However, police failed to detain the accused so far despite the higher authorities of the concerned Police Station on Monday conducted a search in operation.

Debbarma son of Surendra Debbarma and a resident of Ramkrishnapur area under Mungiakami PS was arrested on August 9 on charge of torturing his 23 years old wife Aruna Debbarma. The police acted following the complaint lodged against him.

The incident occurred on Sunday night at around 9:45 pm after the accused Rakesh Debbarma acted wise enough saying that he is feeling ill, in view of which the police constable Sudarshan Debbarma who was on duty let him out of the lockup in presence of Duty Officer Subir Debbarma (ASI).

Later the accused managed to discover a brutal attack on the police constable after he was being taken out of the jail and managed to escape from the police station.

Getting an alarm the ASI immediately called the Officer In-Charge of Mungiakami PS Ajoy Debbarma over phone to take a stock of the situation but OC failed to act immediately as he was in leave.

However, on Monday getting an alarm the concerned SDPO Subhash Debbarma rushed to the police station along with other police officers and threatened the OC and the police constable who was attacked and asked to take an action against the duo on charge of their negligence in duty.

The police officers on Monday conducted a search in operation in and around the concerned area but failed to detain the accused Rakesh Debbarma.
