KHOWAI, August 5 (TIWN): In a bizarre incident, miscreants struck in an UBI ATM at the Puran Bazaar of Khowai sub-division and damaged the guard less ATM machine on Wednesday night.
Branch Manager Sudhamoy Debbarma on Thursday registered a complaint at the Khowai police station.
While the money was safe, the ATM machine was totally damaged with the gas cutter, said Branch Manager.
Debbarma said that on Wednesday morning he was informed about the loss by the locals.
After getting the information he rushed to the spot and informed the police about the incident.
Branch Manager said that the miscreants broke the machine in a failed bid to extract money from the ATM. The incident occurred on Wednesday night whereas the locals on Thursday witnessing the incident informed the branch manager.
No arrest has been made yet and polices’ investigation is on, the police said. It is worthy to mention here that so far the city police and the concerned bank authorities had failed to bring the emerging situation under control and as a result the bank and the ATM customers are getting deprived at large.
However, while elaborating about the incident Debbarma said that prior to six month from now the ATM was damaged by some miscreants.
He said that along with the Bank, the local should also take the responsibility to look after the ATM.
It has been the second attempt that the miscreants has tried to loot the atm. If such incident happens again than the Bank would be bound to stop the ATM service in the area, said Debbarma.
When asked about the absence of security guard in the ATM, Debbarma said that the Bank is not responsible for recruiting security guard as it is been seen by the higher authorities.
After the first attempt of loot a guard was deployed for the service in ATM but 2 months ago he was removed.
However, Police further investigating the case and in the evening officials will come to see the CCTV footage.
