TIWN

AGARTALA, August 4 (TIWN): Four months and seventeen days passed by and the state Left front government finds no odd at Pechartha violence yet today despite it has received the Magistrate level investigation report being reported by the Unakoti DM much earlier. Besides, issuing another such alert to the REGA workers in and around the state the state Minister for RD department had recently said, “The situation turning worst due to the delay of payment by the Bank might trigger further such incidents.”Despite the incident of police firing injured as many as REGA workers at Unakoti district this year in the month of April which also damaged the Pecharthal religious temple at large, the state government even though sought the investigation report from the concerned administration but had failed to offer a justice to the victims so far.

The report of the violence was also reported with the President of India and has rocked the entire state. Delay of REGA payment was the origination of the incident where as many as REGA workers and policeman were injured critically.

Despite seeking intervention of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to dismiss the TSR and police personnel who resorted to lathi charge and fired leaving many injured during the Pecharthal violence a section of REGA workers including the Buddhists and the Chakmas under Unakoti District who were allegedly hit and fired by the police on the very day yet today received no justice.

The central government has changed the method of disbursement of money to MGNREGA workers resulting delay in wage payment, said the officials as a result however, a large section of REGA workers on the very day of the violence took placed on the month of April this year had hit the streets and roads demanding for their wages and action against the TSR police who were allegedly engaged to open fire on the mob.

According to the sources the DM of Unakoti District Mrinal Kanti Nath was earlier ordered to constitute the investigation report in view of which Nath had already submitted the report with the state government.

Interestingly even after the passage of more than 4 months the government was found paid no attention towards offering justice to the incident victims.

Amidst which RD Minister Naresh Jamatia had recently issued a an alert to the REGA workers who are currently deprived from getting their deserved wages.

Jamatia said, “After April incident no such incidents were reported so far but another delay of the payment by the SBI bank authorities in Mumbai might trigger such incidents in near future.”

“Due to the improper infrastructure in the Mumbai SBI Corporate office the authorities are unable to credit the amount to the accounts of REGA workers of the state,” said Jamatia.

According to the upgraded system under the centrally sponsored MGNREGA scheme the payment is directly transferred to the Mumbai SBI branch office from where the amount is credited to individual bank account across the state nation.
