KAMALPUR, Aug 4 (TIWN): The sole cantilever bridge over the river Dhalai at Kamalpur long left unused and unpreserved. This bridge was the only means of communication between Kamalpur and Surma areas even merely ten years ago. Thousands of people used this bridge regularly to ply upto Kamalpur for different reasons.

Although the narrow bridge had many shortcomings and created many problems but still it survived the communication.

Almost ten years ago around 2005, another RCC bridge was built over the river adjacent to the cantilever bridge and it lost importance. Nobody used that bridge anymore. Now the cantilever bridge got rotted with rust and jungle gripped it.

This bridge was constructed by Burn and Burn Construction Company in 1976. The then Forest Minister Kshitish Das inaugurated the bridge. The bridge had many memories both sweet and sour and very well resembled the scenario of development. But the administration had not yet shown any trend to preserve it.
