NH 44 in deplorable condition, commuters suffer

UDAIPUR, August 3 (TIWN): The Agartala-Sabroom National Highway 44 has been running deplorable for several years. Around one kilometre of road has been giving pathetic experience to the dwellers.

Talking to the TIWN, PWD Executive Engineer N. Dalal said that the repairing work of the NH-44 is no more under the observance of PWD. The problems of national Highway 44 are maintained by NH Division of the state. Therefore, the PWD cannot take any initiatives to renovate the road.

Later, he said that for timing the department will manage to arrange to renovate the roads but the proper renovation of the road will be seen by the concern department.

The deplorable condition of the road has become a frequent disruption to the movement of the vehicles. The long stretch of NH-44 in the Udaipur, Brahmabari Area Malidor is in its worst ever condition with vehicle breakdown all along the road becoming a daily trend, thereby causing heavy traffic jam for hours at a stretch.

The present condition of the road from its original condition has turned into muddy and full of pot holes. The commuters having no other options travel through this long stretch which is full of pot holes and boulders.

Risking their own life the commuters are travelling through the road, while on the other occasion the passengers cross the road putting their lives and safety in the hands of the drivers.

The bad road condition also poses tremendous dangers to pedestrians and villagers who live on either side of the highway. On many occasions, as vehicles passes by the pedestrians have reportedly been injured with stone chips hitting them.
“The condition of the NH-44 within this District is in a pathetic condition and has deteriorated from bad to worse. Commuters and commercial vehicles are facing lots of problem due to constant traffic jams and accidents due to the worsening condition of the road”, said a local.
