AGARTALA, August 2 (TIWN): Just a few days left for the celebration of 15th August and to mark the celebration of 68th Independence Day in the state, a long programme will be organized at Teliamura Municipal council, confirmed officials. The entire state is gearing up for the celebration of the Independence with pomp and gaiety.
According to the scheduled program, on August 14 several cultural programs are organized to mark the occasion.
As a part of the program tribute will also be paid to the statue of the freedom fighters who have given their life for the independence of this country.
On August 15, to mark the day the Indian Flag will be hosted in the Teliamura Municipal council office courtyard at morning 7. On the Independence Day various programmes will be organized at Netaji Nagar Motor stand area under Teliamura.
According to the scheduled programme, various sports competition, Cultural programme and many other will be organized. On the day of celebration sweets and fruits will be distributed in the hospitals.
Independence Day, observed annually on 15 August, is a National Holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from the British Empire on 15 August 1947. India attained independence following an Independence Movement noted for largely nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience led by the Indian National Congress (INC).
On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, who had become the first Prime Minister of India that day, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi.
The holiday is observed throughout India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events. Indians celebrate the day by displaying the national flag on their attire, accessories, homes and vehicles; by listening to patriotic songs, watching patriotic movies; and bonding with family and friends.
