SABROOM, July 26(TIWN): Over 250 residences, schools, government offices, market places and lanes in most of the Nagarpanchayat wards of Sabroom town reeled under the impact of water logging after a heavy downpour lashed the urban localities on sunday.
According to Meteorology Department Sabroom recorded rainfall on saturday, which was found to be the highest amount of rainfall on a single night during this monsoon. With incessant rainfall from Saturday night till sunday morning, the storm water from overflowing drains inundated lanes and residential premises of municipal areas.
The entire Club Road area had been submerged in ankle-deep water. Low-lying premises on both sides of the road remained under knee-deep water for the entire length of the day on sunday.
Outside the Nagar Panchayat localities, the worst affected rural areas have been identified under Satchand/Poangbari/Rupaichari RD Block.
“Nowadays, rainfall for a couple of hours is enough to inundate residential campuses in the municipal areas. Several drains are clogged. Neither government officials, nor the local MLA have formulated any effective plan to solve the current situation of the area. SDM gave an assurance to solve the problem of artificial floods and water logging in the urban localities of the Sabroom town.
