MOHONPUR, July 2 (TIWN): A large section of the tribal people under Mohanpur Sub-Division on Wednesday placed a deputation with the SDM demanding to retain their 70 years old land, which was only the major source of income for them. The tribals claimed, “The state government are on a spree seizing those large land mass in the name of the construction of several government buildings, as a result we have become completely landless.†They demanded, from the king’s era this area has been developed into many gardens which were made by them and also by their predecessors.
According to the deprived tribal families, a huge land mass under Bojjong Nagar area, which they occupied 70 years back, i.e. under the regime of the king, had become the source of income for those poor people.
But very recently, the state govt. are on a spree seizing there land in the name of T.I.D.C.(Tripura Industrial Development Corporation), Growth centre, Cricket Academy etc. As a result the main livelihood of the poor people has been seized, and they have come on the road, according to the deprived villagers.
It’s to be mentioned that this huge area was never of the state govt.’s property, rather it belonged to one Haridash Chakraborty, who was actually the owner of a tea-garden, but for a prolonged time he had to run a long dispute in courts with the govt. for this property. Then according to the Supreme Court’s order it had been decided that the state govt. will occupy the land after giving Haridash Chakraborty 60 Kani of the total land. But now this man is no more alive and as a result the govt. is to seize the whole land of the poor people.
However, keeping in view the sufferings of the poor people, SDM Shirshendu Debbarma after talking to the high officials has assured the poor people to take this matter to the higher authorities of the state.
