AGARTALA, June 30 (TIWN): NSUI on Tuesday demanded Smriti Irani resign as HRD minister after a trial court took cognizance of a complaint about her educational qualifications.

NSUI, outfit, on Tuesday held a protest rally in front of Congress Bhawan, which moved across RMS Square, Jackson gate and other part of the state demanding Smriti Irani's resignation. Shouting slogans, NSUI members demanded the immediate resignation of Smriti Irani’s from the chair. NSUI state president Bapi das said that "It is an insult to the academic and student community that a person who is not clear about her own educational qualifications is the country's HRD minister. She must resign."

NSUI members claimed that Irani could not be the minister in-charge of education when an inquiry seeking details from Delhi University about her degrees was on. "

NSUI on Tuesday demanded the removal of HRD Minister Smriti Irani, saying she has no "moral, constitutional or legal" right to continue in her post after a Delhi court took cognizance of a complaint that she gave false information about her educational qualification.

"It is apparent that the country's education minister is lying about her own education. What will happen to the future of millions of children in the country? Irani has no moral, constitutional or legal right to continue in her post for even a day," said NSUI General Secretary Rakesh das. He further claimed that Irani had in 2004 submitted an election affidavit stating she had received a bachelor's degree in Arts in 1996 from Delhi University. But, in 2011, when she filed a Rajya Sabha nomination from Gujarat, she stated that she holds a B.Com degree of 1994 from DU, he added.

Addressing the protest rally the other members of NSUI further said that Smriti Irani has given different information regarding her educational qualifications in election affidavits. This is serious discrepancy.

However, NSUI state president Bapi das, General secretary Rakesh Das along with other dignitaries remained present in the rally.
