AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN): In wake of a policy meeting at New Delhi on July 2 called by the Power Ministry with an aim to settle the power supply deal with Bangladesh, the Tripura Government recently demanding the central government to take up the work of installing power transmission line from Kanchanbari to Suryamoninagar had seek the intervention of Governor Tathagata Roy.During a recently held first ever meeting with the Governor Tathagata Roy, the state power department had said that it was indeed very much necessary to install 400 KV power transmission line up to Silchar from Tripura Purba Kanchanbari in order to supply the additional power from the Palatana OTPC and the work is already over with another transmission line from Palatana to Suryamoninagar, near Agartala. However, the work for installing transmission line from Suryamoninagar to Kanchanbari has come to a halt as the central government has not yet taken any initiative in this regard, said the officials here at the meeting. The department drawing the attention of Governor had demanded him to take up the matter with the central government at the earliest.

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) is erecting 27 km of transmission line across the border. Recently the state government is looking forward to clear up the deal with Bangladesh in regard of supplying 100 MW power from Palatana OTPC.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has targeted to finish the transmission line to supply 100 MW power to neighbouring Bangladesh via Brahmanbaria grid from Tripura by end of 2015.

The Tripura Left front Government with a dream to make the land-locked state a power surplus is eyeing to supply power to rest of the India and Bangladesh.

Besides, according to the Palatana officials, both the Unit-I and Unit-II are in operation and the station is generating about 520 MW in line with schedule now and the problems had been restored. The Palatana OTPC is also bidding to supply from the plant to the neighbouring country Bangladesh. Tripura agreed to supply 100 MW of power to the country. 100 MW power will be fed from Suryamaninagar grid of Agartala to Brahmanbaria grid from the state government’s share of 726 MW capacity gas based mega power project at Palatana in south Tripura.

PGCIL has been erecting 20 km long 400 KV transmission line on Indian side by installing about 65 towers to supply power to Bangladesh and of that construction of seven towers is completed. the process of supplying power including development of infrastructure will be completed by December. Initially, the transmission line will be charged with 132 KV of power. The Centre is funding Rs 83 crore for the project. Tripura has topped the list of highest power surplus state in the country with the installation of 726.6 MW Palatana project.

However, the development and operation of the transmission system would be undertaken by North East Transmission Company Limited, a joint venture of OTPC, the Power Grid Corporation of India and the northeastern region beneficiary states.  Pegged at Rs 83 crore, the project work is underway to expedite the power transmission, said the officials.

To expedite the supply of 100 MW power to Bangladesh from Tripura, the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) entrusted with the task has targeted to finish the work of laying the transmission line by this year. 100 MW power will be fed from Suryamaninagar grid of Agartala to Brahmanbaria grid from the state governments share of 726 MW capacity gas based mega power project at Palatana in south Tripura.

However, despite all odd the Tripura Left front Government is eyeing towards to make the state a power surplus state with its capacity to sell at least 200 MW of power daily from Tripura to other north eastern states and the neighbouring country Bangladesh by 2016. The Bangladesh Government had extended its helping hand allowing Tripura Government to use their land transporting heavy machineries and equipments for setting up of the OTPC plant at Palatana, South District of the state.
