Olympic Day, held annually on June 23, is celebrated by millions of people in more than 160 countries. Commemorating the birth of the modern Olympic Games, Olympic Day is marked on June 23. Olympic Day’s mission is to promote fitness, well-being, culture and education, while promoting the Olympic values – excellence, friendship and respect – and the three Olympic Day pillars – move, learn and discover in every corner of the globe.

National Olympian Associations and their member Olympians across the world have been holding special celebrations to mark Olympic Day.

Olympic Day is marked to host special events, activities and festivals and ensure that the positive values of the Olympic Movement including excellence, friendship and respect, are promoted.

The three pillars of Olympic Day are move, learn and discover. Through these messages, sports organizations today are promoting the benefits of physical exercise, inspiring people to get active and enabling them to discover new sports while embracing the Olympic ideals regardless of ability or background. Olympic Day was introduced in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris.  The goal was to promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. Olympic Day is nowadays developing into much more than just a sports event. Based on the three pillars “move”, “learn” and “discover”, National Olympic Committees are deploying sports, cultural and educational activities.

As a part of the Olympic day celebration a Photo Exhibition is scheduled to be held at Rabindra Bhawan on Tuesday evening.

However, on the occasion of Olympic day a friendship football game is also organized between Tripura and Bangladesh on Wednesday at Umakanata mini-stadium. The players from Bangladesh have already arrived at Agartala and are being given warm welcome at Akhaura Check-post on Tuesday morning by MP Jiten Chowdhury and Sports Minister Shahid Chowdhury.
