Minister Badal Chowdhury inaugurates the 1st International Yoga Day at Rabindra Bhawan

AGARTALA, June 21 (TIWN): International Yoga Day observed in the state with huge enthusiasm and eagerness at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan on Sunday. The day was observed jointly by the state's health (Ayush) and youth affairs and sports department under government of Tripura. 192 countries participated in International Yoga Day along with 251 states of the nation.As a part of the program a mass rally was organized from different schools of the state including students from U.K. Academy, Netaji Subhas Chandra Vidyaniketan, Khudiram School and others accumulated in front of the Rabindra Sastabarshiki Bhawan. Yoga students, Youths, NSS, Scouts Guide, NCC and NYK, volunteers, Sports persons, Members of sports and yoga Association club also participated in the rally.The main function was held in Agartala Rabindra satabarshiiki Bhawan where thousands of schools students, NSS, NCC cadets, police personnel, voluntary organizations and people from all spheres of life organized a colorful march followed by performance of yoga asanas.Inaugurating the state level programme of International Yoga Day Minister Badal Chowdhury stated that performance of yoga asanas are very essential to make people's mind tension free, healthy and responsible. Scientific Yoga asanas also compose people to do good works for the well-being of the citizens of the society," the minister added.Yoga helps in maintaining peace and tranquility of the nation and helps an individual to make the earth beautiful and prosperous, said minister.

Minister Badal Chowdhury further said that Yoga is not just about working out; it’s about a healthy lifestyle. The practice of yoga allows students to be still in a world consumed with chaos. Peace and tranquility can be achieved through focused training and regular yoga performance. Yoga’s deep breathing and meditation practices help foster an inner shift from to-do lists, financial concerns and relational struggles to something a little bit bigger than the issues you face. Yoga helps to relieve stress and uncluttered the mind, and helps you get more focused.

However, Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports department Samarjit Bhowmik, Shahid Chowdhury Minister of Youth Affairs and sports, M. Nagaraju Secretary for health and family welfare department along with other dignitaries remained present in the program.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted an India-led resolution declaring June 21 as 'International Day of Yoga'. This came less than three months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea.

It was introduced by India's Ambassador to the United Nations Asoke Mukerji and also 175 nations joined as co-sponsors, the highest number ever for any resolution in the 193-member UN General Assembly.

This has been also noticed for the first time that such an initiative has been proposed and implemented by any country in the UN body in less than 90 days.
