BELONIA, June 21 (TIWN): In a bizarre incident a class 12 student left critically injured when he was ran over by a Maruti car at Belonia Bonkor area on Saturday late night.

The victim is identified as Santanu Baidya, S/O- Nitish Baidya resident of Bonkor area.

The accident took place on Saturday late night when the victim Santanu Baidya was returning from his private tutor’s house in his bi-cycle and was dashed by the maruti car at Bonkor area when the car approached with high speed and collided head on with the bi-cycle of Santanu Baidya.

Reportedly, the maruti car bearing number TR1AP0218 was heading towards Bonkor from Bidyapith. While heading towards Bonkor area , the driver in a drunken condition first hit the vehicle with a pulsar bike parked at the road-side and losing control over the brakes of the car the driver dashed the 18 years old Santanu Baidya and left him critically injured.

Getting alarm the localites reached to the spot and immediately rushed the victim to Belonia hospital.

Observing the critical condition of the victim, after the preliminary treatment the doctors referred him to Agartala Government Medical College and hospital on Saturday late night.

Further, the Belonia Police personnel reached the spot and detained the car from the spot and recovered numbers of alcohol bottles from the car but failed to nab the driver as he is yet absconding.  The driver is identified as Paritosh Ravi Das.

However, the victim is undergoing treatment at AGMC hospital, but as per the doctors there is least chance of his survival. Police is further investigating the case.
