KHOWAI, June 7 (TIWN): Following the incident, where being struck with poverty, a couple residing in Bishnuram Sepai Para area sold their newly born baby in exchange of Rs. 5000, PCC president Birajit Sinha visited the house of Rajit Tati on Sunday morning and gave assurance to stand beside the poor family.

PCC President Birajit Sinha, District Congress President Khitis Bhowmik, Khowai Block Congress President Pranab Biswas along with 15 member team also visited the spot.

Talking to TIWN reporter PCC President Birajit Sinha Stated that he will talk with Agricultural Minister Aghore Debbarma to provide the family with BPL card, and to facilitate them with a house and other necessary things required for their survival.

President Sinha strongly criticized the functioning of the ruling government; he said that on the one hand, the ruling government claimed to generate employment for the needy people and to make the population self-reliance, but on the other hand, poverty leads the parents to sell their own child in exchange of some penny to fulfill their needs.

As Rajit Tati (35), who is a daily wage’s labour by profession has been unable to contribute the required amount for his family and also does not have any alternative opportunity to get relief from their pathetic condition and unfortunately he sold his son.

Parents Ranjit Tati (Father) and Shrima Tati (Mother) were suspected to sell their child to Samarji Debbarma (40) because they could not afford food and medical treatment for their sick child. In the beginning Samarji Debbarma gave Rs. 5000 and next Rs. 4500 when the child was bought to his house on June 3, 2015.

The child baby boy took birth on June 2, 2015 at around 11:30 am, morning. Detailing about the incident, it has been said that the parents were bound to sell the child as they had no alternatives to feed their child. Earlier, the parents once tried to kill the child in the womb itself but the neighbor stopped to do so.

In the meantime, Samarji Debbarma, who had rubber business, seeing the situation willingly agreed to take all the responsibilities of the child from that day on wards and adopted the child on June 3.

Further it has been said that the couple had 2 daughters and a son.

Now questions have been raised that if the ruling government are taking proper initiatives to assist the needy population of the state then why such kind of issues occur in the state.
