KHOWAI, June 5 (TIWN): Being strike with poverty, a couple residing in Bishnuram Sepai Para area sold their newly born baby in exchange of Rs. 5000 in the name of poverty.

Today, an incident of Bishnuram Sepai Para of Champahour Police Station area, Khowai Sub-Division under Tulashikar Block came into notice when a couple suppressed under the burden of poverty voluntarily sold their child to feed the stomach of the family.

As Rajit Tati (35), who is a daily wages labour by profession has been unable to contribute the required amount for his family and also does not have any alternative opportunity to get relief from their pathetic condition.

Parents Ranjit Tati (Father) and Shrima Tati (Mother) were suspected to sell their child to Samarji Debbarma (40) because they could not afford food and medical treatment for their sick toddler. In the beginning Samarji Debbarma gave Rs. 5000 and next Rs. 4500 when the child was bought to his house on June 3, 2015.

The child baby boy took birth on June 2, 2015 at around 11:30 am, morning. Detailing about the incident, it has been said that the parents were bound to sell the child as they had no alternatives to feed their child. Earlier, the parents once tried to kill the child in the womb itself but the neighbour stopped to do so.

In the meantime, Samarji Debbarma, who has rubber business seeing the situation willingly agreed to take all the responsibilities of the child from that day onwards and adopted the child on June 3.

Further it has been said that the couple had 2 daughters and a son.

On one hand, the ruling government claimed to generate employment for the needy people and to make the population self-reliance. But on the other side, poverty leads the parents to sell their own child in exchange of some penny to fulfill their needs.

Now questions have been raised that if the ruling government are taking proper initiatives to assist the needy population of the state then why such kind of issues occurs in the state.
