KAMALPUR, June 04 (TIWN): Centrally sponsored housing scheme for slum dwellers came under scanner in Kumarghat Nagar Panchyat for random partycracy. Most of the 507 beneficiaries selected from Party leaderships and their close aides. More importantly, the beneficiaries selected for the project are not dwellers from slums.
The Central government introduced a housing project for the urban slums of the country to lift up the condition and quality of life. The project named as Rajiv Awas Yojana or RAY in short, provides the beneficiary an opportunity to build housing at a cost of 3, 49, 000 rupees. Eighty percent of the cost is provided by the Central government. Ten percent is to be provided by the respective Nagar panchayat and the rest ten percent by the beneficiary.
In the month of December, 2014 last, the Kumarghat Nagar Panchayat along with Sabroom, Amarpur and Khowai Nagar Panchayats got the chance. In Kumarghat Nagar Panchayat, the authority selected 507 beneficiaries for the project.
The authority selected the beneficiaries from the leaderships and party close aides. The Nagar Panchayat members ward leaders and the beneficiaries of IAY schemes also got selected.
Now, as the list came out, the workers and supporters of the Party got angered. As a result the Kumarghat Nagar Panchayat authority paused the implementation of the work on the eve of ensuing Nagar Pancayat election. It is not worthy that, in the first week of May this year, the Nagar Panchayat had received the first installment of 7, 30, 81, 000 rupees which lied unexpensed till date.
