AGARTALA, May 29 (TIWN): State Public Work Department (PWD) Minister Badal Chowdhury attending the programme of flyover foundation stone laying ceremony demanded the central govt. to tag the concerned highway road of Kukital – Sabroom, Khowai-Aqartala, Kamalpur-Belonia corridor as National Highway as earliest as possible. He said that despite drawing the attention of the central govt. in this regard no development has been brought by the Ministry.

“Rather the central govt. said that if the state govt. here take up the land acquisition project with its own fund than the concerned road connectivity would be declared as NH,” Chowdhury blaming the NDA govt. at the centre said, “The central govt. had allocated only Rs. 250 crore to upgrade the road connectivity here in Tripura, though they were supposed to allocate Rs. 600 crore.”

With the Agartala-Sabroom National Highway NH-44 double lane construction work droops, Minister Badal Chowdhury recently requested Union Ministry of Roads and Transport to release the land acquisition fund as earliest as possible in order to take up the work.

He said that, “It is the responsibility of the central govt. to allocate fund for the land acquisition for the maintenance work of the NH-44 road, but the govt. had asked the state govt. here to take up the land acquisition work from its own available fund.” Adding to that Chowdhury said Rs. 220 crore remained pending with the state govt. which would be required to to give to the construction agencies who were entrusted to take over the work of the land acquisition.

“But the central govt. had allocat5ed only Rs. 165 crore this year for it while the state govt. has already done the work costing Rs. 450 crore in 2014-15 financial year.”

Chowdhury said Left front govt. here in Tripura on its ambitious project has built several pucca bridges replacing the old wooden bridges in the rural areas of the state. A total of 35 old wooden bridges were replaced by metal bridges, said Chowdhury.

Chowdhury urged the central govt. to give top most priority on the road connectivity here in Tripura. However, later blaming the NDA govt. at the centre for its negligence role so far during its rule, Chowdhury said that the the developmental scenario under the Left regime in Tripura clearly fingers the alternate govt. at the centre. “The promises of the Modi govt. before the Lok Sabha election has now turned bleak,” Chowdhury said.
