3 Nagar Panchayats in Tripura to upgrade into Municipal Council

AGARTALA, May 13 (TIWN): Adding another feather to the state Tripura the state urban development department has decided to upgrade at least 3 Nagar Panchayats into Municipal Council maintaining the population of the concerned areas.

Minister Manik Dey on Tuesday talking to the newsmen at the civil secretariat said that Kumarghat Nagar Panchayat, Santirbazar Nagar Panchayat and Ranirbazar Nagar panchayat needs to be upgraded into Municipal Council.

He said the based on the census till March 31, 2015 the department has seen three Nagar Panchayats had crossed 15, 000 populations, therefore maintaining it the department has taken a decision to upgrade those Nagar Panchayats.

Adding to that Dey said, “We have already issued a notification to those Nagar Panchayats for public opinion as per the rules and regulations.”

He said that department tied the knot with at least 1 month to the panchayats to receive public opinions on the decision of the upgradation of those panchayats. “Later a final decision would be taken by the urban development department,” Dey said.

At present there are a total of 8 Nagar Panchayats and 10 Municipal Councils. However, after the upgradation of 3 NP into Municipal council, there would be total 5 NPs.
