AGARTALA, May 12 (TIWN): All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary V. Narayanswami would arrive here at the state on May 14 to review the recent Tribal Council poll debacle, said TPCC Working President Ashish Saha. However, he would leave the state on May 16.
Saha said that Narayanswami would hold a series of meeting with Congress candidates after his arrival taking up the issue of the recent poll debacle that took place in ADC election.
Saha also said that Narayanswami during his three days visit to the state would also hold a meeting with the leaders and MLAs at Agartala Congress Bhawan. He would also visit Surma constituency and meet the concerned leaders and the workers taking up the issue of the upcoming by-election. He would visit Surma on May 15.
However it is to be mentioned here that the Left Front recorded a resounding victory in the 7th general elections of the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council. In the results declared on May 6, Left Front candidates emerged victorious in all the 28 seats reaffirming its continuation in office for the third consecutive term.
Left Front secured a decisive 54.29 per cent of the total votes polled leaving behind all the other opposition parties. With another major setback to the opposition congress the party this year could hardly score 5.49%.
Citing a reason for the debacle of the party Congress Chief Birajit Sinha said, “It is nothing but the weakness in the party itself is responsible for our setback to this ADC poll.” He also said “There are several other reasons but mainly because there was several uproar inside the party itself before I joined as a President to TPCC we have scored least percentage of votes.”
However but keeping no stone unturned the Pradesh Congress at last manages to keep the deck ready for AICC GC Narayanswami yet again, who is scheduled to visit the state on May 14 and would review the ADC poll debacle by the congress.
