Tripura gradually emerges as the unsafe and unprotective place for the women in the Golden-era of so-called Mr. Clean Manik Sarkar. Data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) also tell that every second day a woman is raped in Tripura (as of 2012) with the figure of 202 rape cases in 2012 alone.
Additionally, an alarming 375 cases were reported as regards assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty. 1147 cases were reported under the head Cruelty by Husband or his relatives (Under IPC 498A), in the year 2012. Not only the serious crimes like murders and women related crimes but the Police have also performed poorly when it comes to safeguarding the properties of people.
