IPFT supporters attacked by CPI-M cadres says N.C. Debbarma

AGARTALA, May 9 (TIWN): After the declaration of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election results on May 6 CPI-M cadres are attacking the supporters of Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT).

Speaking with the media persons at Agartala Press Club on Friday President of Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) N.C. Debbarma alleged that CPI-M cadres are attacking the IPFT supporters. Many IPFT supporters were physically tortured allegedly by the CPI-M cadres.

He further said that heinous and brutal attack like abusing in filthy language, physical assault, ransacking dwelling houses movable properties and destroying of rubber plantation and other valuable crops of our party members and supporters by the CPI-M and GMP cadres have started immediately on declaration of result of general elections of district council on May 6.

The situation is becoming more and more aggravated due to the fact that large-scale CPI-M cadres are freely entering into the ADC villages from the adjoining non-ADC areas and forcefully demanding/collecting money from our party members/ supporters for so called celebration of their “Victory” in district council election and threatening dire consequences in case of refusal to pay such ransom, N.C. Debbarma added.

Earlier, a team led by President of Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) N.C. Debbarma submitted a memorandum to the Tripura’s i/c Director General of Police (DGP) K.Nagraj regarding the attacks on IPFT by CPI-M cadres, he added.

He further said that the Left Front government of creating a lame duck institution having no real powers to ensure the development of backward indigenous people. He also added that the left front government is misguiding the people of the state regarding the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT).

The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) came into being in the state under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution in 1987 to protect and safeguard the tribals who form one-third of the state's population. 

The council, which is the home to 19 tribals, comprises 67 per cent of state territory.
