Agartala, May 8 (TIWN): State prepares to celebrate 154th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on May 9. To mark this occasion, several cultural functions will be organized by Information and Cultural Affairs Department. The cultural function organized by the State Government will be held at the premises of Rabindra Bhawan.
On Friday morning, at Rabindra Kanan,”Prabhati Kabi Pranam” will be performed by the small children.
After that in the evening, at Rabindra Bhawan, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will inaugurate the program.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, famous literate, Riten Chakraborty and Secretary In-Charge of Information and Cultural Affairs Department, Barun Kumar Sahu also remain present in the occasion.
Artists from Bangladesh, Kolkata and the famous artists of the State will perform at the three-day long festival on Rabindra Jayanti. The main attraction is the cultural song played by Ruhini Roy Chowdhury from Kolkata and the drama “Sapmochan” played by the artists from Bangladesh. Besides that, Chandanir, a cultural institution will also arrange several programmes on this auspicious day.
A preparatory meeting was held regarding the celebration of Rabindra Jayanti. To commemorate the birthday of Rabindranath Tagore, a recent meeting was held at Rabindra Bhawan premises headed by Information and Cultural Affairs Minister, Bhanulal Saha.
Rabindra Jayanti is the day which marks the birth anniversary of the great scholar and novelist Rabindranath Tagore. Birthday of the noble laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore is celebrated on 25th day of Baisakh. In Kolkata, it is popularly called Poncheeshe Boishakh and is celebrated ceremoniously and jauntiness all across West Bengal. According to the Gregorian calendar Rabindra Jayanti is celebrated on 8th or 9th of May. Rabindranath is remembered on this day. It is celebrated with equal fervour at Shantiniketan, the university started by Rabindranath Tagore.
