AGARTALA, April 30 (TIWN): With the non-payment of the REGA wages to the deprived workers rocks the state recently has become a major issue for the Left front govt. here in Tripura in wake of poll. Several hundred of REGA workers in the ADC areas staging protests against the non-payment of the wages were found to have claimed, “No vote for CPI-M”.

The tale began from the Pecharthal Block under North Tripura District, where hundreds of deprived REGA workers were allegedly attacked by the police, open firing on them, and later with the only decision the workers came out claiming, “No vote for CPI-M”.

The protests then covering the entire state reached at Hezamara Block under Sidhai Police Station, where again more than hundreds of REGA workers staged a road blockade recently demanding for their due payment of wages. Several workers and police were injured, after the protest turned worst at Hezamara Block.

And putting another hurdle for the deprived workers the state govt. had recently come up with a decision of not paying wages for the Panchayats directly, but the workers from now till the election to ADC ends, have to go to the bank branches to withdraw their sanctioned amount.

However, but most interestingly Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was found to have made allegedly spurious statement on the deprived workers. Sarkar recently on an election campaign to the ADC areas had managed to make the REGA workers cheaters saying, “No payment would be made without work.” He also found to have said, “The workers are simply demanding their wages without doing work under the scheme, therefore it would not be tolerated.”

This has of course brought a matter of concern for the ADC voters now as the deprivation to the REGA workers are at large and the state govt. has remained back track from meeting their deserved demands.

The opposition had claimed, “Manik Sarkar are on a spree now to eye wash the ADC voters making baseless statements.” The opposition had also claimed, “Sarkar along with the passage of the time has been losing his morality and status.”

But, according to the analysis to it the Left front govt. here in Tripura had so far managed to increase their vote bank as the opposition parties had failed to keep challenge before it.

Though of course, it’s a time now to witness if there is any development to the response of the ADC voters during the poll on May 3. Because despite scams and corruption under its regime the Left front had managed to stand tall yet today, due to the lack of quality politics here in Tripura.
