AGARTALA, April 11 (TIWN): Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress (TPYC) on Saturday staged a protest rally across the capital city Agartala followed by a street corner demanding Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s resignation allegedly for promoting Rose Valley and six other Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFC) in the state in last few years.Marching the rally today the Youth congress leaders comprising of TPYC President Sushanta Chowdhury alleged that chit fund companies had flourished whenever the Left Front was in power in the state. The leaders demanded resignation of CM shouldering all responsibility of NBFC cheating in the state during his tenure.

The companies were allowed time to wind up operations in the state and flee, thus leaving lakhs of hapless investors in the lurch, alleged the leaders.

CPI (M) cadres were engaged by the NBFCs as their agent in the villages to collect money from the innocent people promising hefty return even in shorter period. Not only in Rose Valley, Mr Sarkar hold meeting with several NBFC bosses and had attended their program and appreciated their effort of non-banking financial activities, which has encouraged people to deposit in such unscrupulous companies, they alleged.

Raising a slogan during the rally on Saturday the youth congress leaders demanded the CPI (M) not to curtain the chit fund scam here in Agartala with a motive to save the corrupted image of Manik Sarkar.

However it is worthy to be mentioned here that the statement of Chief Minister and senior most minister of his cabinet former finance minister Badal Choudhury are contradictory, where Mr Sarkar claimed he did not know Rose Valley and other NBFCs would cheat the peoples’ money. But Choudhury stated SEBI intimated the state government in 1999 about fraudulent activities of RoseValley and others.

Earlier the opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman demanded if West Bengal Minister Madan Mitra could be arrested for association with Sarada group, Mr Sarkar has to be arrested for his association with Rose Valley, Waris Finance and others, Mr Sinha demanded. Meanwhile, CPI (M) Politburo has summoned Chief Minister Sarkar in Delhi recently to discuss the issue of NBFC activities in Tripura and the association of the party with them.
