Chief Minister inaugurates newly constructed Khowai District hospital; Asks Doctors to serve rural Tripura for first 5 yrs in their career

KHOWAI, March 25 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed District Hospital at Khowai. Ahead of tribal council election, the administration hurriedly took the decision to inaugurate the recently upgraded sub division hospital.Inaugurating the hospital, Chief Minister told that, question may arise among a particular section of people that Khowai district hospital already exist, but what is the need for reopening? The answer is, hospital is reopened for better infrastructure for providing health services to people. Further describing the status of the health sector, Manik Sarkar told that at present in the State, nearly 95 percent of the people are availing the facilities of Government aided hospitals. In future the Government should reach the total of 1110 sub-health centres in various villages, which is highest in India. But it would be done after the construction of 30 building houses in the villages. At present in 11 villages, this facility is prevailing. However, Chief Minister avoided mentioning failing health care and poor condition of hospitals across state which causing hundreds of deaths from Malaria and other diseases.

Chief Minister cautioned and asked upcoming Doctors that serving in villages in first 5 yrs of their career is a must.

Health Minister Badal Chowdhury, Agriculture and Tribal Welfare Minister Aghore Debbarma, Health director, M. Nagaraju, MLA Samir Deb Sarkar were present in programme.

Health Minister Badal Chowdhury told that,” healthcare in Tripura features a universal health care system run by the state government.” It is to be mentioned that the Constitution of India charges every state with "rising of the level of nutrition and the standard of living of its people and the improvement of public health as among its primary duties". Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of the Government of Tripura is responsible for healthcare administration in the state.

The health care infrastructure is divided into three tiers — the primary health care network, a secondary care system comprising district and sub-divisional hospitals and tertiary hospitals providing specialty and super specialty care.

In reality, almost all the departments in the hospital lack doctors  besides paramedics. It has only  seven doctors .For instance, the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics needs at least four  doctors, but only has one. Being one of the important branches, it sees heavy rush of patients  at the hospital every day.
