AGARTALA, March 22 (TIWN): New twist revealed in the murder of Bithika Barman at Shalbagan area of Agartala. Bidyut Kanti Das (companion of Bithika) who received injury at the time of incident is now under the grip of police.

According to the police sources, after the examining of the injuries by orthopedician and the experts of the forensic department, it was cleared that the injuries received by Bidyut is not the wounds caused by third person. The depth of the injuries forecast that Bidyut had stepped himself; just to create a drama to save himself from the capture of the police. However, after taking the report, police on yesterday evening, rushed to the hospital and capture Bidyut under their control. It is to be mention here that the hospital authorities will release Bidyut tomorrow. After that police will start their investigation procedure.

Bithika Barman was brutally murdered at Shalbagan area on March 20. According to the police, Bithika Barman along with Bidyut Das when reached Shalbagan area, all of a sudden three miscreants namely Dipankar Nath Bhowmik, Tanmoy Nath Bhowmik and Dilwar Hussain attacked them with sharp cutting weapons. As a result Bithika Barman and Bidyut Das received grievous injuries. After getting the information police personnel from new capital complex police station rushed to the spot and immediately shifted the injured persons to GBP hospital where in the attending doctors declared Bithika Barman brought dead. The doctors further said that the condition of Bidyut Das is stable now. All the three accused persons namely Dipankar Nath Bhowmik, Tanmoy Nath Bhowmik and Dilwar Hussain were arrested by police.

According to a data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) also tell that every second day a woman is raped in Tripura (as of 2012) with the figure of 202 rape cases in 2012 alone. Though the number has seen a downfall from 258 in 2011 but during the period from 2001 to 2012, this number is seventh most worst. The year which had least rape cases during the said period is 2013 with 135. Along with that, the atrocities on the women folk in the names of kidnapping and abduction is numbered as 120 in 2012 with a rising trend as 106 in 2010 and 113 in 2011
