KAILASAHAR, March 14 (TIWN): Decision on the setting up of the area for the construction of fertilizer factory likely to be finalized within next month- says Minister Tapan Chakraborty while visiting the Kailasahar sub-division. Minister further told that the ruling Government is not willing to set upthe factory at Sater Miyar Haur , as if it is set up, there will be no area left for the farmers for Jhum Cultivation and Paddy cultivation. It is to be mention that nearly 600 acres land will be needed to set up the factory.

Besides that Minister also told that the decision of the Chambal Fertilizer factory, State Government and ONGC will joint come up with the final outlay. It is to be mentioned that the contractors of the project, Tata Consultancy had proposed three sites, one at Pecharthal, and two others at Kailasahar. While, Kailasahar Unnayon Mancha claims that out of these 600 acres, 550 acres is also not used for paddy cultivation. It is to be mentioned that Kailasahar Unnayon Mancha called for 24 hours strike on April 20. Besides that the Mancha also organizing mass convention on April 5, lightless hours on April 6th.

In a press meet the organizers of the Mancha sorted out a detailed sketch of the programme schedule. Among the prime demands, the top position attained is the confusion prevailing over the construction of urea fertilizer at Kailasahar.

Briefing the media, the organizers told that earlier it was decided to set up a urea based fertilizer at Kailasahar. All the preparations for setting up the fertilizer factory are almost half done.ONGC had also approved for the construction. Tata Consultancy Group is being handed over the charge.  In the meantime, the internal clash between the two parties created confusion over the construction of factory. On the other hand, some leaders were trying to mislead the people. Getting fully confused over the matter, a section people disagreed to donate the land on the basis that this will create water pollution. Recently in the Lok Sabha, the Union Ministry of Chemicals and fertilizer had also paved the green signal that the total situation is now under the hands of State Government.

Besides that, the setting up of airport is the second primary point. Kailasahar aerodrome, located at Durgapur area under Kailasahar subdivision which was established in the 60th century with small aircraft service, now remains closed for past 09 years due to lack of passengers. Now the airport is almost turned into an abandoned place. A team of Airport Authority of India (AAI) had visited the Kailasahar way back in 2011 with an effort to reopen the Kailasahar airport. But the airport is lying nonfunctional since several years. If Kailasahar airport is made operational, Unakoti district will have direct connectivity with Kolkata, Guwahati, South Assam and many other parts of the Northeastern region. It will also reduce pressure on Agartala airport.
