AGARTALA, March 10 (TIWN): Hundreds of workers under the banner of Tripura REGA Karmachari Samanoy Samity cease-work for an indefinite period from today on seven points charter of demands. The demands include regularization of service of REGA workers, put an end to the termination of REGA workers, providing medical allowance/ TA/DA/ Special, Accidental benefits, creation of new posts to implement the flagship programme and revision of salary of REGA workers.

“No step has been taken on the part of the administration regarding our demands. We waited for eight days for their reply. As of now, we did not get any reply from their side and that’s why, we have called for cease-work for an indefinite period of time from today”, secretary of REGA Karmachari Samanway Samiti – Joydeep Kar told to TIWN. He said that earlier on February 28 the delegations under the banner of Tripura REGA Karmachari Samanoy Samity had met the Rural Development Minister Naresh Jamatia and submitted a memorandum comprising seven point charters of demands. “We have set a deadline till March 8 to fulfill our demands, but no administrative steps have been taken yet”, said Kar.

However, according to the latest report Dhalai has topped the MGNREGA in terms of job generation with 82.03 mandays while South district bagged second position in the job generation tally with 77.45 mandays. Interestingly, the state is unlikely to spend reallocated outlay sanctioned under national flagship programme – MGNREGA for the current financial year 2014-15. Besides, as per the revised labour budget, the state is supposed to receive Rs. 652 crore for the centrally sponsored scheme MGNREGA as fixed by the Ministry of Rural Development. The centre is committed to release the full amount if the state can spend the available money, but it seems the state is unlikely to spend the available money till March 31, 2015.
