 13 Industrial Training Institutes prevails in the State: Industry and Commerce Minister

Agartala, March 5 (TIWN): 13 ITI’s are prevailing in the State still now. Other than that the selection for the implementation of the 4 new ITI’s is under process. In a written reply raised against the question of MLA Monaranjan Acharjee and Samir Deb Sarkar, Industry and Commerce Minister, Tapan Chakraborty told that the initiatives of setting up of 4 more ITI’s is under process.

The places sought for the setting up of ITI’s are Khumulung, Manubankul, Khowai and Boxanagar. In the meantime, the setting up of ITI’s at Bishalgarh and Teliamura is at the hand. Minister further said that every year, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Draftsman, Surveyer, Motor Mechanic, and Wareman are employed every year. The Government of India, in the year 1950, introduced the Craftsman Training Scheme countrywide to ensure a steady flow of skilled workers in different trades for the domestic industries by systematic training of workers, to raise industrial production quantitatively and qualitatively, to reduce unemployment among the educated youths by providing them employable training, to cultivate and nurture a technical and industrial attitude in the minds of the younger generation. This very scheme now stands the most important in the field of Vocational Training, shaping craftsmen to meet the existing as well as future manpower need through the vast network of ITI(s) Countrywide. 

To keep pace with the need of the days the Government of Tripura also inducted the first ITI at Indranagar, Agartala in the year 1958 and its successful implementation prompted the State Govt. to establish a number of ITI(s) at the District levels such as ITI, Kailasahar in 1962, ITI, Jatanbari in 1979, Women ITI, in 1988 at Indranagar, Agartala. Very recently (in 2004) a number of ITIs have been inaugurated at Udaipur and Belonia in South Tripura, Ambassa in Dhalai District and another ITI at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district.
