Agartala, March 2 (TIWN): Tripura is ready to celebrate the festival of colours, Holi. As a part of this occasion, glowing colours are ready to sell among the prominent places of the State. However, Governor and Chief Minister have greeted the people of the State on this auspicious occasion.

Governor P.B. Achariya on his greetings expressed that by celebrating Holi, “the spirit of secular environment will be made more strengthened and the bond of brotherhood, unity among the people will be tied in a strong hand. Like the colours of Holi, our State is also diversified. We must respect the glowing colours of the society”. He also urged the people to celebrate the occasion peacefully and unitedly.

On the other hand, Chief Minister also conveys greetings on this auspicious day and hopes that the festival of colours will delete the rust of the society, irrespective of caste, creed and religion and help to strengthen the spirit of unity and harmony.

Every year of this occasion, colours ruled the streets today as people of all ages with faces and clothes smeared in myriad of hues celebrated Holi, a harvest festival which marks the onset of spring season. From youngsters and the elderly to the widows of Vrindavan, the 'gulal' spared none as revelers danced to the accompaniment of drums. People exchanged sweets as a mark of bonhomie. The festival is celebrated to commemorate the Hindu mythological tale of Prahlada emerging unscathed from the flames despite being drawn into the fire by demons Holika. The Hindu month of 'Phagun' ended with 'Holika Dahan' and 'Chaita' starting today will start. The frolic and fight with colors occurs in the open streets, open parks, outside temples and buildings. Groups carry drums and musical instruments, go from place to place, sing and dance. People move and visit family, friends and foes, first play with colors on each other, laugh and chitchat, then share Holi delicacies, food and drinks. In the evening, after sobering up, people dress up, visit friends and family. Holi is one of the most important festivals of Hindus celebrated across the State with full zeal. People smear faces of each other with gulals, different colours, rejoice with sweets, food and drink on this occasion, which reflects the feeling of unity, togetherness and joy. It is a national holiday in India.
