Agartala/ Sonamura, March 1 (TIWN): Local residents of Barmura village of North Paharpur under Jatrapur police station organized road blockade on Barmura road following absence of local police and SDM during a raid conducted by troops of BSF’s Dhanpur BOP here today.

According to an official source, acting on tip-off, the troops of BSF conducted a raid at three houses of Iman Hossain, Amar Das and Nirmal Das in Barmura village.

As many as 200 bottles of phensedyl and 30 kg dried ganja were recovered from a place adjacent to the house of Amar Das, said the source.

Suspecting stock of contraband items, the troops busted two doors in two houses during the raid. But the jawans of BSF did not find any contraband items in the two houses.

As a result, the locals turned aggressive and a speech-battle was adopted in between the villagers and BSF jawans. The main argument took place due to absence of SDM and local police during the raid operation, said the source.

After receiving information on public fury, police of Jatrapur police station including women constables rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. At the same time, villagers of North Paharpur staged road blockade on Barmura road. But the villagers did not pay attention to police.

Sensing more trouble, SDPO, Sonamura- Ashok Kumar Sinha also rushed to the spot and discussed the issue with the villagers. Deputy Commandant of Dhanpur BOP- Anil Kumar and chairman of Kathalia Panchayat Samity- Abdul Karim were also the part of discussion.

However, a decision was made that local police and SDM will be there with BSF in case of any further raid and the villagers withdrew the road blockade.
