Agartala, March 1 (TIWN): Tripura Journalists’ Union (TJU) constituted its new executive committee in the state conference at Agartala Press Club here today.

President of the Indian Journalists’ Union (IJU) and member of Press Council of India- SN Sinha inaugurated the programme by lighting ceremonial lamp while secretary of IJU- Gitartha Pathak graced the dais as special guest.

As many as 140 delegates from different parts of the state have participated in the state conference and TJU conveners for 8 districts were elected respectively.

During the state conference of TJU, two veteran journalists- Sroto Ranjan Kisha and Goutam Kar Bhowmik were felicitated.

The new executive was formed as- Syed Sajjad Ali (president), Pintulal Dey and Alok Ghosh (vice-presidents), Pranab Sarkar (secretary), Ranjan Roy and Shyamal De (Assistant Secretaries), Jahar Roy (Treasurer), Sujit De (member), Bapi Roy (member), Prasenjit Saha (member), Suman Ghosh (member), Gopa Ghosh (member) and Arindam De (member).

During the conference, all the orators have laid importance on setting up of the Wage Board for hundreds of newspaper and news agency employees from across the state. Asserting that the contract system in the industry was an assault on the freedom of speech and deprived the employees of their labour rights, they urged all unions to close their ranks and work unitedly.

It is worthy to mention here; after observing the inactive role of the union for last four to five years due to a few of the office bearers, the Indian Journalists’ Union ousted the previous committee and  ranab Sarkar as convener to form a new committee.

Following the direction, Pranab Sarkar along with many other members of the union made this initiative to re-establish the committee through the state conference to fight for the interest of working journalist with few demands.
