AGARTALA, March 1 (TIWN): NeerMahal, the grand palace located in the vast Rudrasagar Lake in Tripura which is in near-ruins due to neglect and ravages of time, is set for restoration as a major tourist attraction. But the materials used for restoration is of poor grade quality. As a result, the important parts of the palace are destroying day by day. Side by side this historic spot gradually losing its glory due to the lack of infrastructure and maintenance. State Government, though claims that there are basic infrastructure in the various tourist places. But the truth says another picture. As comparison to other Major States, Tripura conquers the position of some best archeological spots. But in the name of retrofitting of Neer Mahal the CPIM led state government is looting the fund provided by the central government for retrofitting of Neer Mahal.

Recently, two domes along with one wall of Neer Mahal were collapsed. . As a result one women worker who was engaged in the work for retrofitting of Neer Mahal received minor injuries. It is to be mentioned here that the work for retrofitting of Neer Mahal was going on. Tripura’s last princely ruler, King Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya (1923-1947) had built Neer Mahal in 1930 as his summer residence. With an aquatic area of 364 acres, it is among India’s national lakes, located 55km from Agartala. Originally with an area of 816 hectares, Rudrasagar has now shrunk because of encroachment, misuse and setting up of two brick kilns in the complex, in violation of norms set by the state pollution control board.

At present from minister to CPIM party workers remain deep necked in corruption. CPIM government over issues of spurious drug, atrocities against women, corruption, malfunctioning of PDS, chit fund, deterioration of law and order, underdevelopment of tribal people and deprivation of employees during the agitation. The tightlipped gesture of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar over the increasing crimes and vowed to intensify party’s agitation across the state. He also urged the public to condemn the role of Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio. The uninterrupted 21year stint in power seems to have taken a toll on the financial transparency of the Left Front administration in Tripura. Corruption in implementation of rural development schemes continues unabated. There is a state government of Tripura eats up all the money which comes from the central government for development.

However, State Government claims that all is well in the retrofitting work of Neer Mahal. The project for repairing and making Neer Mahal earthquake resistant is expected to be completed within the estimated target of June, 2015. Acording to statistical records, the state had nearly double inbound tourists in 2013-2014 compared to the previous year. 7,817 foreign tourists visited the state in 20122013. The figures rose to 15,376 in the last financial year.
