Tripura power surplus state received Rs. 46.82 crore selling surplus power during 2013-14

AGARTALA, February 18 (TIWN): Tripura, ravaged by insurgency for more than three decades, made considerable progress in the commercial sectors and emerged as the only power surplus state in the northeastern region in 2014. In the meantime the Tripura has received a total of Rs. 46.82 crore transmitting the surplus power to other states during the financial year 2013-14, while during 2012-13 it received Rs. 16.11 crore, the state power minister Manik Dey replied to the un-starred question moved by the opposition MLA Ratan Lal Nath during the assembly session.

Replying to the un-starred question in regard of the surplus power status of the state moved by the opposition MLA Ratan Lal Nath during the on- going assembly session, the state Power Minister Manik Dey said that sometimes the state receives surplus power when there is a less demand as compared to the power production of the state. Adding to that Minister mentioned that the state receives surplus power during the winter season and from 11:00PM to next day evening.

Dey further mentioned that there was no surplus power during 2012-13 financial year, but sometimes during the off-peak hour the state witnessed 50 million unit surplus power, besides, there was no surplus power during the financial year 2013-14. He mentioned that since after the Palatana OTPC Power Plant started commercial generation of power from the year 2014, the state witnessed surplus power of around 275 million units during the off-peak hour and sometimes during the peak hour.

Sideling another related issue moved by the opposition MLA Ratan Lal Nath, Minister replying to the un-starred question stated that the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) as per the order of the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) sold power to the consumers on an average of Rs. 5.62 till the month of October during 2014-15 FY, whereas from November the figure was Rs. 5.99.

However, adding to that Dey said that at least 2, 745 consumers left to be transmitted with electricity, who has already submitted their amount of money to the TSECL, till January, 2015.
