Congress gears up for Feb 25 Manughat convention; V. Narayanswami to attend meet; PCC infighting continue

AGARTALA, February 18 (TIWN): Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) made the decks ready at Manughat ADC area to arrange a worker’s convention meeting on February 25 ahead of ADC election drawing near here in Tripura. The meeting will comprise of at least 3000 congress delegation with All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and North east in-charge V. Narayanswami to attend the meeting on his visit to Tripura on February 24 morning, said TPCC President Birajit Sinha on Tuesday.Talking to TIWN on Tuesday evening, TPCC President Birajit Sinha said that the Pradesh congress is preparing for a Congress worker’s convention meeting at Manughat at the ADC area. At least 3000 congress delegation will attend the meeting along with the AICC General Secretary and North east in-charge V. Narayanswami. Adding to that Birajit said that certain issues comprising of embezzlement of tribal people’s money, corruptions and scams along with the empowerment to the TTAADC will be taken up during the convention meeting on February 25.

Birajit alleged that the indigenous people of the state in the ADC areas has always been backtracked and deprived by the state govt. for the past many years, along with the money of the tribal people of the state has been embezzled at large, that has brought a major hurdle for the tribals here in regard of their daily livelihood. “We have been demanding more teeth to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) by direct funding to the autonomous body and converting it into a state council”, Birajit told to TIWN.

Birajit Sinha said that the party has decided to launch massive programme at community level for strengthening the party base in hilly areas. The Congress in Tripura has always supported empowerment of TTAADCs to give the people of the indigenous communities their due autonomy and share in socio-political and economic life. We have to strengthen the party by bringing more number of people to the party fold. The party must be fortified from booth level, he added.
