Despite tall claims by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar of economic development and progress in the state of Tripura for last few years has been crippling with the rise of suicidal cases. In an average two person is committing suicide every day. Tripura is one of the most politically stable and generally a peaceful state. In addition, the per capita income at current prices has risen from Rs 50,859 in 2011 12 to Rs 69,705 in the year 2013 14 as claimed by Sarkar. However, despite the peaceful environment and a good economic growth rate, the increasing suicides rate is a matter of apprehension and concern for the planner and policy makers in the state. It directly poses the vital question of why this trend of suicide is occurring. Today, the state has a large band of unhappy youth.

In the state 45 per cent of suicide cases reported between 2011 to 2014 were of people less than 30 years of age according to National Crime Record Bureau Report). Depression is also caused by unfulfilled aspirations among the young who believe their life is not changing as much as they want it to. In terms of opportunities to the youth in the state is not much favorable as compare with other parts of the country. Being one of the hilly states in India’s North East, difficult geographical landscape and unfavorable climatic conditions, the issue of connectivity (in terms of road, Rail, and Air) is always a matter of concern.

With the growing population in the state, unemployment has become an escalating Problem of the Youth. While majority of the urban unemployed youth seems to be the new entrants into the labour force or those seeking work for the first time. These youths formed a large proportion of the new entrant unemployed. Besides that the details of crimes on women are: Additionally, an alarming 375 cases were reported regarding assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty. 1147 cases were reported under the cruelty by husband or his relatives (Under IPC 498A), in the year 2012. Not only the serious crimes like murders and women related crimes but the Police have also performed poorly when it comes to safeguarding the properties of people. A mere less than 35 % success rate has been registered. Though Tripura recorded marginal fall in the crime against women though of the total cases registered with police about 46.05 % are women related cases.
