AGARTALA, February 16 (TIWN): For the past few months the NDA led central government is using "media power" to carry out a "malicious campaign" against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s led TMC government. Speaking to the reporters today TMC Tripura state chairperson Ratan Chakraborty said that the party was being made the soft target for attacks as it stuck to its principles.

Slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chakraborty said the party may use media power to show a Modi-wave, "but its divisive and communal agenda will not work".

"Certain sections of the media have been sold off. They are hyping any small little incident against Mamata Banerjee’s led TMC government. We will not bow down to any pressure. Some media houses may have huge bank balance, but we have people with us," he said.

"The people of Bengal have trusted Mamata Banerjee because they wanted change. The more Mamata Banerjee fulfils her promises, the more will be the volume of the malicious and slanderous campaign against her because powers with vested interests want to fulfil their own agenda, said Chakraborty.

"But these malicious campaigns won't be able to stop Mamata Banerjee. She will succeed in the end because the masses are with her. The masses have given her hundred out of hundred on the performance front, he mentioned.

BJP and Congress parties are always with affluent businessmen and bureaucrats, but never work for the common people, he alleged. Both BJP and Congress do not want important police reforms. One of the most important reasons why both these parties want police totally accountable to them rather than to the people is so that they can make use of money and muscle power during elections. BJP and Congress both are equally guilty of crony capitalism and favors to corporate, he added.

"We have already launched a strong movement against the CPIM and discard the politics of Congress. We have no doubt in snatching power from the CPIM in the next Assembly elections in this state," he mentioned.
