KAMALPUR, Dec 17 (TIWN): A deadly chimney blast at Annapurna Brick Factory owned by Soubhik Pal claimed lives, injuring many workers in Kamalpur subdivision's Halahali area. According to the latest update, the death toll has risen to four in the incident. The brick kiln chimney collapsing in the Kamalpur Halhali spread tension in the area, as it has raised questions over the safety of the brick factory workers. The fire brigade and emergency response teams rushed to the spot and took the injured workers to the local hospital. The deceased have been identified as Subal Debnath (55), Pinku Shil (37), Anil Gautam (49), and Sajal Malakar (40). The condition of three others is reported to be critical.
A total of seven persons were injured and two were referred to GB hospital. So far, only three persons out of them survived but their conditions remain critical.
Local BJP MLA Manoj Kanti Deb visited the hospital, met the family members.
Talking to the media, Deb said, “It’s heartbreaking to see the consequences of the incident. I physically visited the spot. The chimney was totally destroyed leaving the workers at the verge of death. Nothing more to say right now. We stand strongly with the families.”
An investigation has started to find the root cause of the accident.
