 Tripura bids adieu to veteran communist leader Anil Sarkar, last rituals performed

Agartala, February 11 (TIWN): Amid huge crowd including ministers, party leaders and thousands of teary-eyed people, Tripura bid adieu to veteran communist leader and litterateur late Anil Sarkar, who breathed his last at the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences in New Delhi on Monday evening. His body was brought back here Tuesday and was kept at the party office for people's last respect. He was survived by his son, daughter-in- law, grandson and other relatives.

 Chief Minister Manik Sarkar along with other ministers of the state, CPI-M party leaders and a vast number of people from different parts of the state have participated in his last journey traversing through the city roads to Battala crematorium. The capital city Agartala today witnessed unprecedented crowds turning up to pay their respects. Thereafter, the mortal remains of the 76-year-old veteran leader were consigned to flames with full state honours and tradition.

Late Sarkar was familiar across the country and beyond for his patronage of peoples’ culture, art, music, education alongside his political career. He had joined CPI-M after it was formed in 1964. He was elected into the party’s state committee in 1968. He was known as an evident leader of scheduled castes people.

Reportedly, late Sarkar had penned 24 books mostly on literature and received many awards from different government and non-government organizations for his literary works.

Almost all the party’s organization and other organizations including Tripura Government Employees’ Association (TGEA), ICFAI University and Montessori College have expressed deep condolences over Anil Sarksr’s demise and sympathy to the braved family.
