Agartala, Sept 24: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Tripura University Unit has raised serious concerns over food quality and hygiene after a shocking incident was reported at the University’s 11 Number Building canteen on 23rd September. According to reports, a student of IMD 7th Semester, Ms. Bhumika, consumed her lunch from the canteen and later discovered insects inside the food served to her. The incident has sparked outrage among students and raised urgent questions about food safety and hygiene standards within the campus.

In a memorandum submitted to the Registrar of Tripura University, ABVP demanded strict action against the vendor, immediate enforcement of hygiene regulations, and regular inspections of all canteens. They also urged that if such negligence is repeated, the University should cancel the vendor’s contract and blacklist them from future operations. It has also come to light that the tender for the 11 Number Building canteen is in the name of Mrs. Papia Dutta, Vice President of BJP Tripura. Addressing this, ABVP State Secretary Gourab Das stated, “No matter who runs this canteen, if students’ safety is compromised, we will not tolerate it anymore. This kind of issue has happened several times before, but the University authorities failed to take it seriously. This time, ABVP will stand until the last moment to ensure strict action is taken.”

In addition to submitting the memorandum to the University authorities, ABVP delegates also handed over a memorandum to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), West Tripura, urging immediate safety inspections and precautionary measures across all canteens on campus to protect student health. ABVP leaders reiterated that student welfare cannot be compromised and demanded prompt and strict corrective measures from the University administration.
