TIWN July 29, 2025

Agartala, July 29 (TIWN): The All India Save Education Committee (AISC) has expressed deep concern over the current state of the government education system in Tripura. The committee submitted a memorandum to the Director of Education, highlighting the plight of the education system.
The committee stated that many schools in the state are facing an acute shortage of teachers, with some schools being run by a single teacher. The infrastructure is also in a poor state, and teachers are being burdened with administrative tasks that are affecting the quality of education.
The AISC alleged that the sudden implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has led to the conversion of 125 traditional schools to English medium schools under the CBSE board without providing adequate English language teachers. This has resulted in students facing significant difficulties.
The committee also highlighted that the collection of development fees and other charges is forcing poor families to withdraw their children from schools. Moreover, the pass percentage in secondary and higher secondary exams has decreased significantly due to the sudden shift to English medium exams, resulting in many students dropping out of school permanently.
The AISC demanded that the government cancel the Vidyajyoti project, appoint sufficient teachers in each school, not close any government school, and ensure infrastructure development in all schools. The committee warned that if the government fails to take prompt action, they will be forced to launch a mass movement.
