Agartala, July 24, 2025 (TIWN): The Tripura State Fishermen's Union organized a rally at Raj Bhavan, submitting a memorandum to the Governor with demands aimed at improving the welfare of fishermen and the general public in the state.
The rally was a significant move to bring attention to the plight of fishermen and fishermen and to push for immediate action to address their grievances.
The union's demands are comprehensive and cover various aspects of fishermen's lives. They include allocation of government and semi-government water bodies to fishermen cooperative societies without tender, financial assistance for fish production, and implementation of life insurance for fishermen. Additionally, the union demanded that the government provide modern equipment and loan facilities to fish vendors, ensure fair wages for workers in the fishing industry, and establish permanent modern markets for fish and fish fry in every sub-division. The union also sought an increase in the monthly allowance for fishermen and other beneficiaries to ?5,000 and free distribution of 10 kg of rice per month to all poor families.
The rally was a testament to the determination of the fishermen's community to fight for their rights and to seek justice. The union's demands are reasonable and aimed at improving the living standards of fishermen and their families. It is hoped that the government will take immediate action to address the grievances of the fishermen's community and work towards their welfare.
