Nalkata, July 18, 2025 (TIWN): Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma visited the 82 Miles Proper ST Boys Hostel in Nalkata area of Dhalai district to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of 10th-grade student Jakim Marak.
The minister was accompanied by MDC Bidhyut Debbarma and Tribal Welfare officers.
Debbarma spoke with the hostel staff and inquired about the possible reasons behind the student's death. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized the need for parents and teachers to be more vigilant to prevent such incidents in the future. He also stressed the importance of keeping students away from addiction.
The minister also inspected the 82 Miles Proper ST Girls Hostel and the 82 Miles Residential English Medium School Hostel, identifying various problems and directing the authorities to take swift action to address them. He emphasized the need to maintain a safe and positive educational environment, paying attention to students' mental health.
The visit has brought hope to the hostel authorities and local residents, who are optimistic that such tragic incidents will not recur in the future.
