Veteran leader Anil Sarkar passes away; State declares holiday tomorrow as mark of respect: Chief Secretary

AGARTALA, February 9 (TIWN): State Planning Board Vice Chairman cum former heavyweight Minister of LF Govt Anil Sarkar passed away in AIMS NEW Delhi. At around 7.40pm he breathed his last. Anil Sarkar was in ventilation in AIMS suffering from Kidney problems. From Saturday both the kidneys were not functioning. Today defying all the attempts of doctors Anil Sarkar breathed his last.

Veteran leader Anik Sarkar was one of the oldest members of CPI(M) and since 1972 he was the Member of Tripura Legislative Assembly. In 1978 he became the Minister in the state Cabinet.

From 2013 he has been the Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board. During his 30 years of Ministry Anil Sarkar hold the charges of Information & Cultural Affairs, Higher Education , School Education, SC Welfare Department etc. Apart from being a politician Anil Sarkar was also known as a poet. 

Reacting to his death Chief Secretary G Kameswara Rao told this correspondent ," As a mark of respect tomorrow there will be holiday in all schools, offices and other govt institutions. However, as the Budget Session is on, state Assembly may think in its own way tomorrow.  " 
Anil Sarkar was born in 1939 in Bangladesh. In 1956 he became the member of undivided Communist Party and then CPI(M). At his death state lost a crucial leader of mass movement.
