Chit fund scam stalls house, question hour adjourned

Agartala, Feb 9 (TIWN): Chit fund scam row stalled the state assembly on Monday.The second day of the budget session of Tripura Assembly on Monday again witnessed unruly scenes, adjournments as Opposition members disrupted the question hour demanding discussion on the multi-crore chit fund scam.

As soon as the House assembled for the Question Hour, Opposition members, including Congress opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman, ran into the well of the office demanding discussion. and tried to disrupt his speech.
Congress members holding banners and shouting anti-government slogans in the well of the House disrupted the proceedings.Unable to run the House, Speaker Ramendra Chandra Nath announced adjournment of the House barely within 25 minutes till 12 noon. 
Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman said the ruling CPI (M) was trying to evade the chit fund issue and used CBI as a shield. "I had requested the speaker to for discussion on chit fund. Since there is allegation against the chief minister, he has to clear his stand on the floor of the house,” Roy Barman said. 
Congress MLA Ratan Lal Nath too  echoed similar sentiments. "The Left government is desperate to avoid any discussion on the chit fund scam. That is why the ruling party members came out with the idea of dodging the issue," he told reporters. 
Health minister, Badal Chowdhury  replying on behalf of chief minister Manik Sarkar who is at Delhi to attend the NITI Ayog meeting said that the state government  is not shy of talking about chit fund. A CBI inquiry is already on, which will unravel the truth, he said.
