AGARTALA, May 10 (TIWN): CPI-M’s fishermen union demanded actions from the Tripura Govt to improve the livelihoods of the people who are involved in fishery.
Addressing the media, CPI-M MLA Sadhan Das said, “Earlier, the fishery somobay (association) used to go through elections, but now a section of mafias have captured these associations. We demand liberation of these associations from them and give them to the real fishermen.”
The party union also demanded that a minimum wage should be given Rs. 600 be given to the fishery workers and that also government facilitate houses for the fishermen and for that, at least Rs. 5 lakhs should be given to the fishermen.
Das also demanded to improve the fish markets’ hygiene level so that buyers can shop at ease.
“Along with fishermen, other social pension holders should get Rs. 5,000 per month. So many people’s names were slashed from social pension, and that also should be restored,” he said.
