AGARTALA, May 6 (TIWN): India has been self-sufficient in crop production since the 1960’s with the successful implementation of the Green Revolution led by M. S. Swaminathan, known as the Father of the Green Revolution in India. The movement started since India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s time, and it was Indira Gandhi who initiated modernization in agriculture, aiming to reduce the food crisis in the nation. However, according to Ratan Lal Nath, it was only Prime Minister Modi who paid respect to the farmers properly, and the farmers were left deprived of their rights before.
“Without food, we can not survive, but who arranges the food for us? Farmers! They deserve so much respect. But unfortunately, they never received their due respect until PM Modi took charge,” said Nath while addressing at Rabindra Bhawan in a farmers' meet where the flood-affected farmers were compensated.
“Krishan Samnman Nidhi, direct deposit of money to farmers’ bank accounts. Who thought about all these?” claimed Nath, amid various states, including West Bengal has been providing direct financial benefits to farmers for many years.
“Farmers do not have 10 - 5 duty privileges. They don’t get money for working overtime, and so they deserve recognition. Today they have that recognition,” added Nath.
