AGARTALA, April 21 (TIWN): Burning Vice President J.D. Vance’s effigy, Tripura CPI-M staged a protest in Agartala on Monday, advising the Modi Govt to follow China and learn how to deal with tariffs with the U.S.
A protest rally was organized in Agartala by the CPI-M farmers’ union on Monday, followed by the agitators burning Vance’s effigy at Paradise Chowmuhani market. The protesters raised slogan "Vance Go Back !" Addressing the gathering, CPI-M senior leader Pabitra Kar said, “When the U.S. is imposing massive tariffs on Indian products, the Indian Govt has invited Vance to sign an open-trade deal which will bring American products duty-free.”
Expressing concerns over the duty-free items, Kar said, “The products they have picked are milk, meat, flour, rice, vegetables, cotton, fruits. Where will our farmers go?”
“American farmers get compensation, financial support from the government, and here in India, new bills are introduced to dismantle the farming industry,” said Kar.
He further cited how China has reacted to U.S.’s tariffs as the country imposed retaliatory tariffs against the U.S.
“Not only U.S. , but India is now planning to make similar deals with European countries,” added Kar.
