AGARTALA, March 7 (TIWN): Three persons were sent jail on Friday by a CBI court for at least four years on fraudulence charges. They have been convicted of using Tripura Bamboo Mission funds with the tag-mark of Women Development Society, an NGO which was functional in 2012. In the name of Women Development, the NGO members were quite successful in taking out lakhs of money from Tripura Bamboo Mission during that time. The heinous crime was supported by a Bamboo Mission employee Achyut Kumar Das.
A departmental inquiry was initiated in 2012 after suspecting a fund embezzlement and accordingly, a complaint was lodged for investigation, which was later handed over to CBI.
Advocate Prabir Saha said, Achyut Kumar Das, the Bamboo mission instructor helped in the falsification of the utilization report and supplied all necessary documents, along with showing false meetings and programs in the utilization report.
A total of 48 witnesses were exhibited in the case.
Kalpana Debnath, President of the Women Development Society was also punished for the same period of tume. Two more Sanjoy Debnath, and Kamal Krishna Debnath are the two other culprits involved in the scam.
