“Altogether 1217 calls of incident were received through the women helpline no- 1091 from March 2014 to December 31, 2014, based on which police registered a total of 107 specific cases and taken instant actions on the complaints”, said Chakraborty.

 

According to the official reports, most of the calls were made on domestic violence while in some cases, the women victims denied to launch complaint after making a call to 1091 due to mutual understanding with the accused persons, added Addl. SP.

 

Asked about the popularity, “The women help line in Tripura is rapidly gaining popularity among the women victims, as they need not to visit the police stations to lodge any complaint or to seek assistance of police in case of any harassment.”

 

He further made an appeal to the general public to create awareness about this helpline for making best use of this facility for prompt police action and to ensure safety and security of women. Any person can dial on 1091 from any mobile or land line phone to give information to the police regarding any crime / harassment in which a women / girl is victim.

 

It is worthy to mention here, in order to provide maximum possible support to the women in distress amidst the high trend of crime against women across the state, Tripura police had launched this helpline-1091 for women on March 08, 2014. This toll free helpline was inaugurated by the then DGP- C. Balasubramanian on the occasion International Woman’s Day in presence of the IGP (Law and order) Anurag Dhankar, IGP (Training) B K Roy and other senior police officials.
